This article by Corina love support the argument that text messaging is negatively effecting the English language. Love points out that while texting it is impossible to have lengthy conversations like those over the phone, so people tend to abbreviate words to the extreme. By doing this people are developing bad habits which negatively effects their use their vocabulary and grammar. Love states

If students can only discern between words such as "kewl," "iz" (why would anyone change "is" to "iz" is beyond the realm of logic, lyk omg) and therefore we can make simple words practically simple to the point of absurdity. Love referres to a recent Irish study posted at cnn.com in Aprill 2007 which reports that texting has negative effect on language in general. Some of these effects includes "proper grammar, spelling, and rhetoric all elements that comprise many college papers and academic writing. Although texting is another form of tecnologie people have to adapt to, Love asks, "
