final edited 2nd rough draft
The way I came upon my hero was through an experience I had when I was in the sixth grade, up untill the summer before ninth grade. As a kid I was the typical tom boy. I played a lot of sports so most of my closest friends were boys. One in particular was my friend Levi. Our friendship began in the sixth grade and were even better friends in middle school. This is who I met my hero through, Levi's step dad. His name was Mark. Mark was the rock of the family. He was a kind, caring, fun, sensitive person, who was always there for anyone Mark sensed needed him. He had a welcoming appearance like a big teddy bear, whose smile could warm the heart of any person. I was quickly swept up and in admiration at how amazing and lucky this family was for having a person like this in their lives. Mark played an important role in my life. Ive never had a good relationship with my dad. So I lacked the father figure that is essential in a girls life. Mark filled this void and was always there for me. Mark shaped the way I think of heroes. Among many other things a hero is loving, supporting and inspiring.
Some of the ways Mark demonstrated being loving was by including me in his family, and treating me like a daughter. Soon after I met Levi's family, we all became very close. I was surprised to find that his family liked me as much as I liked them. Over a short period of time Marks family became my second family. They invited me to all sorts of family functions. Whether it was a family dinner, a day trip, a vacation or even just watching a movie, or going to a concert. I was always included. I felt loved and welcome when ever I was with the family, especially by Mark. He would always offer a hug or a comforting word when ever I came around. He was like the father I wished I had, and treated me like one of his own children. I remember one time in-particular that really made me feel loved; We were at a huge dinner with twenty or thirty of their close family members and friends. Mark walked around the house and introduced me as his long lost daughter. He told every one we talked to about how I was "the new addition to the family" and many other things that made my heart swell with emotion. It was actions like this and how I was included in the family as one of their own that always made me feel loved. This is what made Mark such a big part of my life, and why I consider him my hero.
Another reason for Mark being my hero was how he always believed in me and supported me. I remember one time in-particular that demonstrated this point. I had spent the day with Levi's family and was getting ready to leave. As I walked into the kitchen Mark started a conversation with me about what I wanted to do after high school. I remember telling him I knew I wanted to go to college but wasn't sure which one yet. As our conversation went on, Mark said something that has stuck with me over the years. "You can do anything you set your mind to, you're smart and persistent. Any help I can give you I will, I'll always be there to help and support you." He said these words with a big smile and a hug. I remember him encouraging me about going to college and saying how he would always be there to talk to when I needed him. It was things like this that made him a supporting pillar in my life. No matter what we were doing, Mark always had time to talk to me and encourage me.
Like I mentioned, being inspiring is also one of the qualities that I think defines a hero. Mark inspired me in numerous ways. I admired the way he treated others, and how he was always able to make time for family. I admired how he treated others for many reasons. He always said positive things, and was welcoming to everyone. This is something that has inspired me to do the same to others in my life. The thing I found most inspiring was the time he made for family. I can literally remember every time I spent with him and the family. Mark always made time. Every Friday was family night. I can remember every dinner, boat or snowboarding day trip, every vacation. And most important just spending time at the house with one another. This is inspiring to me because it has taught me how important family is and how it can impact a persons life. This lesson is something I will implement latter in life when I start a family of my own.
My hero Mark passed away in July of 2006 from a heart attack, he was 49 years old. Losing Mark was the hardest thing Ive ever gone through. The time I spent with him created a closer relationship then I had with my own father. I was lucky to have been able to spend the best three years of my life with him and his family. It is unbelievable to me that anyone could impact my life in the way that he did. I am grateful for the time I spent with him in my life. A person like Mark is hard to come by. Mark will always be my hero even though he has passed. Because although he might physically have gone his memory will be with me forever. Having a loving, supporting, inspiring person like Mark has changed my life forever. I'm thankful to have him as my hero

"You can do anything you set your mind to, your smart and persistent, any help I can give you I will, Ill always be there to help and support you." This is a quote from some one who graced my life that I now view as my hero. I used to think of a hero as being super strong, powerful and overall physically invincible. In other words a super hero is someone who saves the day and can't be defeated. This was until I met an actually real life hero. This gave me a more personal view as to what a hero really is. This person showed me that a hero is loving, supporting and inspiring and most of all invincible, but not in the common sense.
The way I came to this sentiment is through an experience I had when I was in sixth grade up to the summer before the ninth grade. Growing up I was the girl that played with the boys, rough housed with my brothers and dominated in the recess games at school. Most of my closest friends were boys, one in particular was my friend Levi. We started being friends in sixth grade and were even better friends in middle school. This is who I met my hero through, levi's step dad. His name was Mark. Mark was the rock of the family. Mark shaped the way I think of heroes, like a said before a hero, among other things is loving, supporting and inspiring.
One of the ways that Mark demonstrated being loving was by including me in his family, and treating me like a daughter. After the first moment I met the family it was like I had found something I had been missing my whole life and never noticed. I quickly found my self being invited to every family function whether it was a dinner, a day trip, a vacation or even just watching a movie or going to a concert, I was always included. I always felt loved and welcome when ever I was with the family especially by Mark. He would always offer a hug or a comforting word when ever I came around. I now know that a hero among many things is loving, supporting, inspiring and above all invincible. This may seem unclear but to me it is crystal. My meaning of the word invincible has changed, I used to think of it as physically invincible. I now think of it as an invincible memory. Mark will continue to be my hero even though he has passed. Because although he might physically have gone his memory will be with me for ever. Having a loving, supporting, inspiring person like Mark has changed my life forever. hero rough draft
This is a quote from the closest person to a hero Ive ever had in my life. To me the role of a hero is almost impossible to fill, how can anyone be a "hero" ? To me this word is thrown a round and taken to lightly. The word hero holds such a profound value that no human can live up to the standard I feel that role entails. I say this because although a person may have all the qualities I view as perfect, no one is invincible. To be a hero is to be superhuman, I view the word hero as a super hero and they are invincible . That why they are portrayed as imaginary, super strong, unbeatable, powerful, fictional characters. The person in my paper is the closest person to my idea as a hero, that Ive ever had in my life.
This is who I met my hero through. Levi's step dad Mark was the rock of the family. He was a kind, caring, fun, sensitive person, who was always there for anyone he sensed needed him. I was quickly swept up and in admiration at how amazing and lucky this family was for having a person like this in their lives. The main things he did in my life that made him seem heroic was how I knew he loved me, believed in me and how he changed my life and made me want to be like him.
After the first moment I met the family it was like I had found somthing I had been missing my whole life and never noticed. How can you know you are missing somthing you never had? I quickly found my self being invited to every family function whether it was a dinner, a day trip, a vacation or even just watching a movie or going to a concert, i was always included. I always felt loved and welcome when ever I was with the family excpecially by Mark. He would always offer a hug or a comforting word when ever I came around. He was like the father I wish I had, and treated me like one of his own children. I remember one time imparticular that really made me feel loved. We were at a huge dinner with around twenty or thirty of their close family members and friends. Mark walked around the house and intoduced me as his long lost daughter. He told every one we talked to about how I was "the new addition to the family" and many other things that made my heart swell with emotions. It was things like this and how i was inclouded in the family as one of their own that always made me fill loved. This is what made Mark such a big partof my life.
Another reason for mark being my "hero" was how he always believed in me and supported me. I remember one time me and the family were headed out of the house to go out to dinner or some other family outing. Every one was already down stair going out the front door, but I was a little further behind comming down the stair case that let to the room before the front door. Mark was waiting for me since everyone had already left the house and was going out to the car. As i got to the bottom of the stairs Mark gave me a hug and I remember he started a conversation about school with me and what I was planning on doing after I graduated. He then said somthing i wont forget "You can do anything you set your mind to, your smart and persistent, any help I can give you I will, Ill always be there to help and support you." I dont quite remember what all we talked about but I do rember him incouraging me about going to college and saying how he would always be there to talk to when I needed him. It was things like this that made him a supporting pillar in my life and how no matter what we were doing he always had time to talk to me and encourage me.

essay one revised (Vonnegut's suggestions)
Finding your passion
I believe that finding your niche in life is one of the most rewarding accomplishments life can offer. Growing up I've seen every one in my life find somthing there good at, somthing they could be proud and cocky about. Knowing that they were damn good at it and that others admired them for it. These are the things that I think bring the most pride and happness in a persons life. It boosts your confidence and makes a person want to pursue it and perfect it till their the best at it. Whats better then being great at somthing? My personal niche is basketball and i love every moment I get to spend indulging in it, just like my family members love their passion.
"Amber, you have to keep your thumb up, right leg back and arm straight when you release the ball!" this is a quote that I’ve heard every other weekend since I was about six years old, from my grandma. It may not seem familiar to some but to me, I recognize this as the perfect stance for bowling. My grandma had been bowling on a league twice a week since she was in her twenties, so it’s only natural for her to give such advice to anyone that accompanies her to the bowling alley. My grandma continues to bowl till this day. She is currently eighty-six and plays on a league with people of all ages. After bowling for sixty-six years, a person may think that she might have gotten tired of the sport, but that is definitely not the case. Seeing how devoted to the game she is, and how happy she gets when my family watches her bowl, is proof to me that once a person finds their niche they don’t just get tired and move on. It is something that brings a person unlimited enjoyment that can last a lifetime.
My sister Lisa is another family member that I admire for finding her interest and progressing it to many levels. Lisa came across her niche in the form of singing, in the school musical "Annie" during the sixth grade. Everyday as her and I got ready for school in our bedroom I would hear her rehearse her part as Ms.Hanigan. She sang her songs on the way to school, after school, at dinner, and before we went to sleep. Every chance she got to perform, she never missed a second. Hearing a twelve-year-old girl singing her heart out every minute of the day wasn’t as fun as it sounds, but she really enjoyed it. Now Lisa is nineteen and has been taking voice lessons once a week ever since. She has progressed her interest so far that now most of what we hear is in the form of Italian opera, and much easier on the ears. Listening to my sister sing all these years, and going to her performances, has given me insight to how happy finding a niche can make a person. Not only has she taken her singing ability from one end of the spectrum to the other, but she has also enjoyed every minute of it, which to me is the most significant aspect, and has developed the way I feel about its importance.
Have you ever watched a middle school girl’s team play basketball? Well, their not that great. They have a lot of fun playing but the score doesn’t get too high and the kids can hardly dribble the ball. This is pretty much how I started out playing basketball but since then me and the team have been playing for the past couple years for our high school girl’s varsity team. The first time I played in a basketball game I was hooked. I loved the crowd, the intensity, competition, and the bond between the players. Sharing the same passion with a group of friends is really what got me into the game. I’ve been playing basketball with the same group of friends for about five or more years and everyday work on progressing to a higher level. Finding my niche has brought me a lot of enjoyment and close friendships. My passion is very important to me and is something that I will continue in as long as I can.
Experiencing what I’m good at and what I enjoy in life, viewing those around me do the same in their own lives, has taught me that acquiring a niche is the thing that will bring the most joy to a persons life. Someone may move from one interest to another with age but eventually everyone finds what their proud of. A person doesn’t necessarily look for this calling but eventually it is found, which in my life has been the most rewarding accomplishments life can offer.

essay 1 reflection
Some things I would consider changing is starting out my paper with a hook instead of just getting to the point/ thesis and veiws. It would have been beter if i had grabbed the readers attention. Another thing I would add is more "showing, less telling".
Some things i would keep the same was the examples I used in my story. I know i was supposed to condence my paper and just tell one story about my self, but I feel like I was still able to incorpourate my self in the paraghraphs that i wrote about others and my self. The reason I didnt change it was because I felt that since those were the reasons I believed in my topic i shouldnt lie and say the only thing I based my feelings on were my self. I felt it showed I owned my paper because I ment what I wrote about and it was shown in the content of my paper.
Some tips I picked up was when writing I need to make sure and say "A person" or "Some people" in stead of saying "you" that way Im not forcing my views on the reader. Also it helped to read out loud which i usually do but this time i used that stratagie alot more.
I think the peer review is a great idea and works very well. I expecially like the fact that we post on blogs and have the recource to read others writting and give advice/ gain ideas.

I beleive- Final Draft
Finding your passion
I believe that finding your niche in life is one of the most rewarding accomplishments life can offer. Some people have many, whether its a hobby, a job, a role someone plays in their family as a mother or father, cooking, writing, sports, you name it. There is no other accomplishment that can bring you this much joy all of your life. It doesn't matter as long as one is interested in it and finds it rewarding to explore the possibilities of elevating their skill. Growing up I've noticed that everyone in my life has always had something they enjoy with all of their being, no matter how old they are. Their experiences, as well as my own, have helped develop my belief of the importance of a niche. No matter how many years or how much time per week a person spends indulging in their special interest, they always enjoy every minute of it.
A person doesn’t necessarily look for this calling but eventually it is found, which in my life has been the most rewarding accomplishments life can offer.

statement- This web connection between student and teachers seems very benifitial and informational for both. Its a way for student to get extra information outside of the classroom. Being able to post on a disscusion board would improve the student knowledge about the subject, and by reading others take on the topic, would cover a variety of aspects, resulting in a clear understanding of the subject. It also seems like its a great way for teachers to connect and veiw different teaching methods.
question- this seems like a very good sight, but how will people that are not teachers or students find out about this sight, so they can benifit from all the great information being posted? Is there any type of advertisment or will people just stumble onto it on google, is it mainly for people who have experience with blogs?

Some people have many, whether its a hobbie, a job, a role you play in your family as a mother or father, cooking, writing, sports, you name it, there is no other accomplishment that can bring you this much joy all of your life. It doesnt matter as long as you are interested in it and find it rewarding to explore the possiblilities of elevating your skill. Growing up ive noticed that everyone in my life has always had somthing they enjoy with all of their being, no matter how old they are. Observing others with such a niche, and aquiring my own has taught me that, no matter how many years or how much time per week a person spends indulging in their special interest, they always enjoyed every minute of it. You may move from one interest to another as you age but eventually everyone finds what their proud of. The thought of this has intrigued me for many years, you dont necessarily look for this calling but eventually you find it.

parahg 3-middle sister (lisa age 19) singing opera (shows a devotion of time, and how rewarding it is for her to improve and accomplish songs of differesnt languages and difficulty level. she has been interested in singing scince the 6th grade. and is veryy good. has song at the beneroya hall.
Paragh 4-brothers love of cars (example of a niche that you can improve and how it not only applies to cars but when backed with education prepares you for bieng good in other areas. for example Jason being good at mechanics is going through training to become a mechanic at boeing.
paragh 5-moms devotion as a christian. She didnt become a christian till she was 20 which is an example of how it somtimes takes a while but eventually you find the one thing that brings you joy.
Paragh 6- my grandma. most inspiring to me of all. this paragraph will explain how after finding the thing that makes you happy, u never get tired of it. shes been on different bowling leagues since she was in her twenties. She is now 86 and still continues to bowl twice a week on a leauge with people of all ages. She has an average of (170)which very good. she strives to be better every time she goes and continues to improve. she beats alot of the men that are on the league because she is sooooo good.
paragh 7- me finding my interst first in drums, then in sports, particularly basketball. This shows that you dont always find what your intersested in the first time around but that you eventually aquire somthing and stick with it. Basketball is my love ive been playing for school and recreational teams since 7th grade. It is a sport im planning on playing as long as my body is in good enough condition.
conclusion- summery of why finding what your good at in life is the most beinifitial thing that will bring the most joy to your life.
